Double Bluff Beach takes its name from the two prominent bluffs flanking this two-mile stretch of Useless Bay shoreline in Freeland on Whidbey Island's south end. The beach sits just a short drive from the Clinton ferry terminal connecting to Mukilteo.

Off-leash dog access makes this the most popular dog beach on Whidbey Island, with the designated area starting 500 feet west of the parking lot marked by a windsock on a flagpole—dogs must remain leashed until reaching this boundary. The sandy beach provides endless running room for dogs during low tide, creating a canine paradise where pets splash in shallow waters, chase balls, and socialize with other dogs. Clamming attracts diggers during spring and fall low tides when butter clams and littleneck clams can be harvested with proper shellfish licenses—always check Department of Health closures before digging. Beach walking spans miles during low tide, with firm sand perfect for long strolls while enjoying views of Seattle's skyline and Mount Rainier rising to the southeast on clear days. Tide pooling reveals starfish, anemones, hermit crabs, and other intertidal creatures in rocky areas during minus tides. Bald eagle watching rewards those who scan the trees above the bluffs, where these majestic raptors perch while hunting for fish. Picnicking facilities include grassy areas with tables and BBQ grills near the parking lot, plus restrooms and a dog rinse station. Beachcombing yields agates, interesting driftwood pieces, shells, and occasional glass floats along the extensive shoreline. The shallow waters of Useless Bay warm slightly during summer, making wading more comfortable than deeper Puget Sound beaches. The small parking lot fills quickly on sunny weekends, so arrive early or visit on weekdays for easier parking.

Freeland Café & Lounge serves all-day breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, home-style cooking, and daily specials since 1974. Gordon's On Blueberry Hill offers fine dining with local ingredients and seasonal menus. Near the Clinton ferry, Hong Kong Gardens provides Chinese cuisine including chow mein, fried rice, and combination plates. Patron Mexican Restaurant serves tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and margaritas. Pickles Deli features sandwiches, soups, and quick lunches near the ferry terminal.
