Lake Union Park Kayak Launch and Beach sits at the southern end of Lake Union in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood within the 12-acre park that officially opened on September 25, 2010. The Duwamish people called the heart-shaped body of water XaXu7cHoo meaning "little lake" in their native language, with Lake Union receiving its English name for its central location connecting various Seattle neighborhoods and water bodies. The park represents the culmination of a two-decade-long land acquisition effort by the city and a 20 million dollar capital campaign led by Seattle Parks Foundation, with the final 5 acres transferred from the United States Navy to the City of Seattle on July 1, 2000. The Kayak Float features a distinctive shade sculpture showing the unique bottom design of a 1930s Norm Blanchard Junior Knockabout sailboat, allowing paddlers to dock and stretch their legs. The Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI), Washington State's largest private heritage organization, occupies the renovated Armory building within the park grounds.

Kayaking and paddleboarding launch from the dedicated beach and kayak float for exploration of Lake Union's protected freshwater environment, with routes connecting to the Fremont Cut, Ship Canal, and Portage Bay while observing houseboats, maritime industry, and urban waterfront. The Center for Wooden Boats operates an Education Center within the park, offering wooden boat rentals, sailing programs, and maritime education celebrating Seattle's nautical heritage. Swimming opportunities exist though the beach primarily serves as a hand-carry boat launch rather than a designated swimming area. The model boat pond accommodates radio-controlled model boats and historic vessel demonstrations. Beachcombing along the restored shoreline reveals smooth lake stones and driftwood. Wildlife watching includes waterfowl including ducks, geese, and occasional loons, great blue herons stalking shallows, cormorants, and gulls. The Great Lawn accommodates picnics, events, and gatherings, while the history trail interprets the area's maritime and industrial heritage. The fountain of water jets provides interactive play during warm weather, and park benches throughout offer lake views and resting spots.

South Lake Union dining surrounds the park with diverse options. Duke's Seafood South Lake Union serves sustainably caught halibut and salmon prepared seven ways, chowder samplers, fish tacos, fish and chips, and oysters with views overlooking the water. Westward features sustainable seafood, Pacific Coast marine fare, fresh local oysters, outdoor fire pit, and beachside seating with spectacular Lake Union vistas. Chandler's Crabhouse creates Dungeness crab, fresh seafood, and waterfront dining. Portage Bay Cafe prepares organic breakfast and brunch with local sustainable ingredients. Re:public offers wood-fired pizzas, craft cocktails, and South Lake Union atmosphere.
