Lily Pond Beach derives its name from the scenic freshwater pond classified as a Great Pond by Maine (20 acres or more) in Deer Isle, Hancock County. The Island Heritage Trust purchased the beach in 2009 with a Land for Maine's Future grant, creating public access to this popular summer swimming destination on the west end of the pond.
The beach offers freshwater swimming, fishing, and non-motorized watercraft access via 8-foot wide gravel paths suitable for strollers and wheelchairs from Deer Run and Quaco Road parking lots, with the Quaco Road trail descending 930 feet to the water. Visitors can explore additional narrow natural-surfaced paths along the northern and southern shorelines, with a seasonal bathhouse and pit toilet providing amenities during summer months.
Deer Isle dining options include 27 Fathoms Waterfront Grill in Stonington for fresh local oysters, Fin & Fern for homemade pasta and locally-sourced seafood on the waterfront, and Stonecutters Kitchen for Maine lobster and harbor views along Atlantic Avenue.
