Mount Baker Beach sits on Lake Washington's western shore in Seattle's Mount Baker neighborhood within Mount Baker Park. The neighborhood and beach earned their names from the views afforded toward Mount Baker, a 10,788-foot-high North Cascades volcano in Whatcom County whose snow-covered dome can be seen looking north and northeast across Lake Washington nearly 100 miles away. The park became headquarters of hydroplane racing in the 1950s along with adjacent Colman Park, hosting races on Lake Washington that drew large crowds. Mount Baker is bounded by Lake Washington to the east and Leschi to the north, with the Leschi neighborhood named for Chief Leschi of the Nisqually tribe who was executed by territorial authorities in 1858. The beach provides lakefront access along Seattle's southeastern shoreline with views spanning the lake to Bellevue, Mercer Island, and the Cascade Mountains.

Swimming attracts families and individuals to Lake Washington's freshwater waters during summer months from the beach, with gradual entry and sandy bottom creating safe conditions. Kayaking and paddleboarding launch from the beach for exploration of Lake Washington's western shoreline with routes toward Seward Park, Leschi, and Madison Park while observing lakefront homes and recreational boaters. Fishing from the beach and nearby areas yields bass, trout, and other Lake Washington species. Beachcombing along the sandy and pebbly shoreline reveals smooth lake stones, driftwood, and occasional finds deposited by seasonal water level fluctuations. Wildlife watching includes waterfowl including ducks, geese, and occasional loons, great blue herons stalking shallows, cormorants, turtles basking on logs, and bald eagles occasionally fishing the lake. Picnicking areas throughout Mount Baker Park accommodate waterside gatherings with lake views and mature trees providing shade. The beach's connection to hydroplane racing history adds cultural significance to the recreational landscape.

Mount Baker neighborhood dining offers diverse options near the beach and Seward Park. Mioposto occupies a historic brick building with accordion windows opening to Mount Baker Park, creating family-owned pizzeria, bar, and Italian kitchen focusing on open-flame cooking since 2006. Heyday serves neighborhood burgers and excellent weekend brunch. Taqueria El Asadero operates as a taco truck where Mount Baker meets Columbia City, creating incredible birria and carnitas. The Original Philly's serves foil-wrapped cheesesteaks as a Seattle staple since 1995. Bright Spot offers coffee, delicious pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and vegan soft-serve ice cream. Shawarma Land creates casual Mediterranean dishes along Rainier Avenue.
