Rome Town Beach derives its name from the town of Rome, providing access to Great Pond, the largest lake in the famed Belgrade Chain of Lakes at 8,239 acres with depths reaching 69 feet. Located at the end of Frederick Lane off Route 225, this small sandy beach sits at the top of Great Pond where Rome's northern boundary meets Belgrade to the south.

The beach offers swimming and water access to the heavily-used recreational lake situated among wooded, rolling hills and fertile farmland in Kennebec County just north of Augusta. Visitors can enjoy fishing, boating, and exploring the largest body of water in the historic Belgrade Lakes chain, experiencing the traditional Maine lake vacation atmosphere that has attracted families for generations.

The Belgrade Lakes area offers seasonal dining at lakeside establishments and camps, with most restaurant options concentrated in nearby Belgrade Lakes Village or requiring travel to Waterville or Augusta. The region maintains its summer cottage and recreational character focused on the seven-lake chain and outdoor activities.
