Public Beach Access 2 takes its name from its designation as the second numbered public beach access point on Siesta Key, Florida, located at 41 Beach Road at the northern tip of Siesta Beach. Siesta Key was virtually vacant until the 20th century, known as Clam Island, Little Sarasota Island, or Sarasota Key, accessible only by boat. In 1906, Mr. and Mrs. Roberts opened Roberts' Inn (Siesta Inn), and Mr. Roberts partnered with Mayor Harry Higel to create the Siesta Land Company, forming Siesta Village and renaming the island Siesta Key around 1907. A bridge opened in 1917 connecting the northern key to Sarasota, followed by a second bridge at Stickney Point in 1927, making beaches more accessible. The sand is 99% pure quartz, estimated by Harvard University geologists to be millions of years old with origins in the Appalachian Mountains. In 1987, Siesta Beach sand was judged "World's Finest and Whitest," and in 2025 ranked #1 in the United States. Public beach access points were established throughout Siesta Key to provide entry to the famous white quartz beaches, with numbered access points serving areas beyond the main beach park. Access 2 features an old broken fishing pier creating a distinctive landmark, with foot traffic only access preserving a quieter atmosphere than the main public beach to the south.
The beach offers the same breathtaking vistas as main Siesta Beach with 99% pure quartz sand remaining cool underfoot even on hot days. Beach fishing from the old pier structure attracts anglers, though swimming is not recommended at this location and no lifeguard is present. Sunbathing on the pristine white sand provides relaxation in a slightly quieter ambiance than the busier main beach. Photography opportunities abound with the distinctive pier ruins and Gulf views creating unique compositions. The location within walking distance of Siesta Village places shops, galleries, and restaurants within easy reach on foot. The powdery quartz sand creates the same soft texture that made Siesta Beach world-famous. Access is foot traffic only with no public parking lot, requiring permit-only street parking with select spots available for long-term parking. The proximity to Siesta Village accommodations and resorts makes this access convenient for nearby guests. The quieter character appeals to those seeking Siesta Key's famous sand without main beach crowds. Beach access hours run from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily, consistent with other Siesta Key public access points. The old pier provides a photogenic element distinguishing this access from other Siesta Key entry points.
