Turner Beach takes its name from its location at the southern tip of Captiva Island, positioned at Blind Pass Bridge connecting Captiva Island to Sanibel Island. The beach is accessible from both the Sanibel and Captiva sides of the bridge, marking the entrance to Captiva Island with the "Welcome to Captiva" sign on the Captiva approach. Captiva Island's name derives from Spanish explorers in the early 1500s, including Ponce de León who coined the slave route to the Caloosahatchee River "Paseo Cautivo" (pass of the captive), giving Captiva its name. Local legends attribute the island's name to the pirate José Gaspar, also known as Gasparilla, who allegedly held female prisoners on the island. Wilbert Herbert Binder first homesteaded Captiva in 1888, marking the beginning of permanent settlement. The Blind Pass area where Turner Beach is located has long been significant for its shell deposits and fishing opportunities, shaped by tidal currents flowing between the Gulf of Mexico and Pine Island Sound. The beach developed as a popular access point serving both islands, with facilities and parking established to accommodate the area's growing tourism industry.

The beach is renowned as the best shelling location in the Sanibel-Captiva area, with seashells blanketing the shoreline due to strong currents through Blind Pass that deposit specimens from the Gulf. Swimming is available in calmer waters away from the Pass currents, with quieter stretches of sand offering safer conditions for wading and swimming. Fishing is extremely popular from both the beach and the rock jetty extending into Blind Pass, with anglers catching snook, redfish, tarpon, and various other species. The beach provides facilities including picnic tables and restrooms, making it convenient for full-day visits. Sunset viewing over the Gulf of Mexico attracts photographers and beachgoers, with the west-facing orientation providing spectacular evening displays. The proximity to Blind Pass allows observation of boats navigating between the Gulf and back bays, while dolphins, manatees, and various seabirds frequent the productive waters. Shelling enthusiasts practice the "Sanibel Stoop," bending to collect conchs, whelks, sand dollars, and other prized specimens. The beach serves as a transition point between the two islands, offering distinct characters on each side of the bridge.

The Bubble Room offers whimsical dining with generous portions of comfort food and famous towering cakes in a restaurant filled with vintage memorabilia.
