Cape Coral Yacht Club beach takes its name from the Cape Coral Yacht Club, established in 1958 as one of the original landmarks when ground was broken to begin building Cape Coral. The Yacht Club was among the first structures built, with the original facility opening on June 10, 1962, following an opening event on June 9, 1962. The club was designed to provide a meeting place and recreation for new residents while attracting more people to Cape Coral during the 1960s development boom. In 1958, boats giving prospective land buyers views of their future tied up to a small dock that would become the yacht basin. In winter 1959, Gulf Land and Title Company constructed a 15-foot grill from concrete blocks where residents gathered, establishing the community's social foundation. In 1998, the Cape Coral City Council adopted a resolution declaring the Yacht Club Community Park a historic and cultural resource, recognizing its significance to the city's development. The facility suffered damage from Hurricane Ian in September 2022, closing indefinitely, with the city submitting emergency permit applications for pier repairs in September 2023. The beach reopened on November 11, 2023, after reconstruction, continuing to serve as a central gathering place for Cape Coral residents and visitors along the Caloosahatchee River.
The beach offers swimming in Caloosahatchee River waters with a sandy shoreline and designated swimming area. Fishing opportunities attract anglers from the shore and public boat ramp providing access to the river and Gulf of Mexico via the waterway. Water sports including kayaking, paddleboarding, and jet skiing explore the river and connected canals. Volleyball courts host friendly matches and tournaments on the sand. A shaded playground provides family-friendly entertainment for children. The beach features restrooms, picnic areas with grills, and convenient parking accommodating visitors. Sunset Celebrations occur on the first Wednesday of each month from October through June, held 4:00 to 7:00 PM or 5:00 to 8:00 PM depending on Daylight Saving Time, featuring live music, vendors, and community gatherings. The yacht basin accommodates boats, maintaining the club's maritime heritage and providing scenic views of vessels along the waterfront. The historic pier extends into the river for fishing and sunset viewing. The beach's location along the Caloosahatchee River creates a unique freshwater-to-saltwater transition environment supporting diverse fish and bird species. The community park atmosphere emphasizes family recreation and local gathering rather than tourist beach activities.
